A healthy place to live and play


Supported the renewal of the Historic Jubilee Pavilion at Lakeview Park through a partnership with a restaurant and banquet operator. The City saved over $1million in renovation costs.

Final and deciding vote to buy Conant School for a community health and senior citizens centre.  Provincial Government has since announced $4 million in partnership funding.

Spearheaded the $2.7 million dollar super build grant for Northview Community Centre for seniors and young people.

Advocate for the newly opened Legends Centre in Ward 6.  It features 4 NHL ice pads, leisure pool and waterslide, senior’s centre, library, fitness centre, indoor track, gymnasium and community meeting rooms.  The first new facility built in Oshawa in 30 years.

Supported the construction of the South Oshawa Community Centre, ending 20 years of broken promises by previous Councils and Mayors.

Successfully intervened to save Pinewood, a heritage building on Centre Street that was slated for demolition.  It is now open with a beautiful addition.

Successfully lobbied Ottawa for $1.4 million in matching funds to remediate the marina.

Supported expansion of Donevan Recreation Complex in 2005.  It now features a skateboard park, renovated pool, ice pad and new dressing rooms.

Acted on behalf of residents and saved woodlot on Wilson Rd and parkland on Grandview


Creating safer streets


Supported new fire stations on Harmony Road North at Taunton Road to service North Oshawa.

Rubbed out Body Rub Parlours out of downtown and away from residential areas.

Led the charge to close the infamous Genosha Hotel strip club.

Championed the Bunker By-law, which protects police officers and citizens from the influx of grow-houses and other organized crime by making it an offence to fortify or booby-trap a house or building that can threaten the safety or lives of those who approach the building.

Found the brownfield site and led the building of the new Sports and Entertainment Centre in Downtown Oshawa –  new home to the Oshawa Generals and future major events, tournaments and performances.  The Center is under the professional management of MLSE (Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment) with 90% of the profit coming to the City.

Completed a long awaited deal to make the consolidated courthouse for Durham Region a reality in Downtown Oshawa. (Ward5)   This 365,000 square foot massive development will create hundreds of meaningful new jobs, and attract further investment and jobs to Oshawa.

Facilitated the construction of a new private parking lot south of Bruce Street, beside the new Sports and Entertainment facility.

Actively recruiting new investors to build a hotel and convention facility in Downtown Oshawa.

Championed the new university with an $8 million dollar partnership for recreation.  By 2010, UOIT will have brought an additional $7 billion in new investment to our City

Successfully lobbied council colleagues to undertake a community strategic plan.

Active and ongoing participation in the implementation of the Downtown Action Plan.

Moved motion to designate downtown Oshawa as an entertainment district, which contributed to its designation as a priority Urban Growth Centre by the Province in its ”Places to Grow“ Act.

Enthusiastically supported the new Medical Centre on Taunton Road that is currently bringing several new doctors to Oshawa.

Actively worked with Children’s Aid to locate a new site for their Headquarters at Airport Road and Taunton Road.

Worked with investors on the development of the former Fittings site on Bruce Street.  The new development will include condos, single homes, restaurants, stores and parks


Accountability and respect for your tax dollars


Only Councilor in Oshawa not to take the Salary increase

Proactively lobbied the Province to investigate (MPAC) Municipal Property Assessment  Corporation and freeze their outrageous property assessments

Did not participate in election style mailings at taxpayers’ expense

Stopped the sale of the OPUC (Oshawa Public Utilities Corporation) by personally moving a motion requiring a City wide referendum prior to any by future council considering sale of our utility.

Supported the appointment of the Auditor General reporting directly to Council to review and recommend ways to save your tax dollars.

Supported the creation of a five year strategic financial plan that will minimize tax increases

Participated in the new branding for the City.

As an energy conservation leader, recommended upgrades to city hall  that could be funded via an energy retrofit

Active participant in the development of a customer service strategy and plan at City Hall.  In the next three years, residents will be able to call one number for a complete access to City Hall.

Voted for the future election of the Regional Chair.
