Global Spectrum Facility Management – new building operators of the General Motors Centre OSHAWA - The City of Oshawa has announced that Global Spectrum Facility Management, a world-wide leader in managing arenas, convention centres and stadiums throughout North America, has assumed the operations and management contract for the General Motors Centre, effective on Monday, June 30. Global Spectrum is a subsidiary of internationally known sports and entertainment firm Comcast-Spectacor.
As the operator of the General Motors Centre, Global Spectrum will be responsible to operate, manage, program, maintain and repair the facility for and on behalf of the City. Also, Global Spectrum is required to undertake a full range of duties necessary to operate the facility including managing, marketing, promoting, securing rentals and events. The City has received an excellent response regarding Global Spectrum’s facility management background, professionalism and performance at other facilities operated by Global Spectrum.

Global Spectrum has appointed Vince Vella as the new general manager of the General Motors Centre. He most recently served the company as Director of Operations at the John Labatt Centre in London. In addition, Global Spectrum named Cortney Ager, a marketing specialist also from the John Labatt Centre, as Marketing Manager. Cortney will be responsible for creating an in-house marketing and public relations agency to promote, market and sell the facility, as well as attract new events. Global Spectrum currently manages more than 70 facilities throughout North America, including the highly successful John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario; the new WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario; the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, PA; and the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ, home of Super Bowl XLII.
Comcast-Spectacor also owns the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association, the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League, Flyers Skate Zone, a series of community ice skating rinks, Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, a regional sports programming network, Ovations Food Services, a food and beverage services provider, New Era Tickets, a full-service ticketing and marketing product for public assembly facilities, and Front Row Marketing Services, a commercial rights sales company and 3601 Creative Group, a full-service in-house advertising agency. In a partnership with Disson Skating, Comcast-Spectacor annually produces 10 nationally televised figure skating spectaculars on NBC.
Opened in November 2006, the General Motors Centre is located in downtown Oshawa and is Durham Region’s premier sports and entertainment venue and home to the Oshawa Generals Hockey Club and the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame.
